Kathy makes jewelry and hair accessories in her home studio out in the countryside of Southern California. Squirrels and rabbits are daily entertainment, coyotes howl in the middle of the night. Barn owls appear in the evening, hooting to one another and screeching as they go on the hunt.
She is inspired by many things, including different periods in history as well as places that only exist in our minds. Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Victoriana... lands of dragons and faeries... the Renaissance, Medieval times, poetry... Steampunk, fairytales and myth. The colors, shapes, and textures of gemstones are an inspiration all on their own, as well as the beauty of the natural world all around us.
“All women are unique and beautiful. Beauty begins on the inside and radiates out with how you treat other people. Let your true beauty shine through.” ~Kathy
Kathy is proud to donate jewelry to many fundraisers including: University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center annual fundraiser, Double H Ranch in New York, University of Tennessee at Martin annual scholarship fundraiser, P.A.W.S. San Diego (Pets Are Wonderful Support) annual fundraiser, and the local Boys & Girls Club.
Her path to jewelry...
Kathy has loved art since she was a little girl and her dad taught her to draw birds using an encyclopedia as reference. He was in the Navy so her family moved every few years. While living in Spain she traveled throughout Europe, enjoying art and architecture in museums and cathedrals. The family finally settled in California.
Kathy has also traveled with her mom to Israel, Greece, Turkey and Egypt. She says, "Seeing how people live in different places, some very poor, is a reminder of how fortunate we are to live in a country like the United States. We can pursue our passions and become anything we want to be. We can believe in God, the power of the universe, the power of nature, the power of positive energy, whatever we want. Everyone should be grateful for these freedoms."
Kathy worked in banking, printing and as an independent graphic artist before discovering her love of making jewelry.
